The 2009 event was hosted along side the RTA, Australia’s governing body of road rules,
from legislation to licensing.
This years event was located in the heart of Sydney at the Exhibition and Convention
Centre and the main topic of discussion was ISA, Intelligent Speed Adaption. The event brought together the local
experts along with world renowned road safety advocates and experts from all over the world.
The 2009 ISA Conference included:
- Showcase the latest ISA technology.
- Present progress on ISA systems development world-wide.
- Review progress of speed zone mapping and management systems.
- Present the latest trial results from around the world.
In conclusion, ISA was very well received by local motoring and road safety experts given the

We extend our greatest gratitude to all the companies who were involved in the success
of the 2009 Road Safety Conference, and to those who attended as guests and patrons.
We are very much looking forward to the next road safety conference in 2010.
Article 1
Road Safety is more important that ever. More car manufacturers are building cars with 4 and 5
star ANCAP ratings because this is what we, the consumer is wanting. When we first study our Learners Test
(link to www.learnerstest.com.au) we are
not even thinking about road safety and the issues that young drivers face on the roads. The first time we start to
realise potential hazards on the road is when we do our Hazard Perception Test (link to www.hazardperceptiontest.com.au) .
Thankfully the Australian Federal Government is aware of the issue and the billions of dollars
it costs tax payers each year. Road Trauma is not cheap, so what’s the answer? Education. It’s important when new
learner drivers are learning the road rules and are sitting their Driving Test (link to www.drivingtest.com.au) that they feel
comfortable.
It might be embarrassing driving round doing your driving lessons (link to www.drivinglessons.com.au) with an instructor with a car clearly marked
indicating that you are a learner, but it’s so important to use a driving school and professional instructor to
learn to drive.
Mum and Dad are not good enough! Mum and Dad have been driving for in excess of 10 years and
in this time not only have the road rules changed but most likely Mum and Dad have now got their own bad habits. If
you are a mum or a dad reading this, then please get your son or daughter a lesson or two before they sit their
drivers test.
Article 2
There are many new cars (link to www.cheapnewcars.com.au) on the market and once your son or daughter is ready
to buy one there are a few things to consider with the number 1 factor being SAFETY!
Old cars are cheap cars and cheap cars are not safe cars. We agree that affordability needs to
come in to but perhaps a Novated Lease (www.novatedleasedeals.com.au) could be the answer. If not, there are
other ways to be able to get your child in to a safe car. Hyundai Australia are about to release the perfect first
car for young drivers. It’s the new version of the Getz model, it’s called the Hyundai i20. There will be a couple
of options and will still be one of the most competitively priced cars on the market.
The i20 will have a minimum of a 4 star ANCAP safety rating which should be the bare minimum
you should consider for any new driver about to take to the roads. The Hyundai i20 will also have a slightly more
expensive version but it will include 6 airbags, including the curtain airbags which help in the event of being
side-swapped or losing control and hitting a pole side on. This latter version will have 5 stars. You cannot get
any safer than a 5 star ANCAP rating. A 5 star ANCAP safety rating means that this vehicle has been tested in real
conditions by robots and crash dummies and the impact and damage is recorded on computers. Each vehicle is
thoroughly tested to determine the safety rating.
New cars like the i20 start from around $13k, which over the course of 3 years works out to be
around $83.33 per week, just over $10 per day. For $10 a day, you could have your child in a 5 star safety rated
vehicle.
It’s a fact, inexperienced drivers have more crashes and fatalities! 7 children under the age
of 21 die on the roads each week in Australia. I’m sure you will agree, this is too many.
